Remarks :
Merlins are extremely good sailing boats, add in the after cabin, roomy heads (also aft) and a proper wet locker and you begin to see why they are so popular. Spellbinder is a smart example that has obviously been well loved.
Accommodation :
The accommodation provides maximum headroom of 1.8m at the after end of the saloon and seven berths in three cabins including the Saloon. The Forecabin provides conventional "V" berths that convert to a double by deploying an infill. There is stowage beneath the berths and an opening hatch above. The Aft Cabin provides its own hanging locker, an opening port and a useable changing area. The berth offers a maximum length of 1.9m and sufficient headroom for both occupants to sit up in bed. Engine access is provided from behind the companionway steps and from the Aft Cabin.
The cockpit provides seating for 5 with wide coamings, tiller steering and single lever engine control. There is a good-sized locker beneath the starboard seat. The Saloon is generously proportioned and airy with a "U" shaped settee/dinette to port that converts to a double berth and a single settee berth to starboard. The drop-leaf table extends athwartships. At the after end of the Saloon there is an aft-facing chart table to starboard and a Galley to port. The after end of the settee berth provides seating for the navigator and there is a wet locker adjacent to the starboard side Heads compartment.
