Owners Comments
A beautiful and original Rustler Class 31ft, auxiliary sloop. Built by Russell Anstey Yachts in 1966 for the Royal Armoured Corps Yacht Club. This was the 7th hull to be built to the design which was later developed into the Rustler 36. The original design was a joint project between Kim Holman and Russell Anstey (hence the name) which quickly became well known for balance, seaworthiness and a surprising turn of speed.
We bought her in 2008 and done almost every conceivable job on her to bring her up to scratch, including a new engine installation with reconditioned Bukh 20. New bespoke Seldon mast with boom, rod kicker, Furlex and Hood sails (all 2011). Teak cockpit grating, tiller, toe rails (2011); full Raymarine ST60instruments and ST2000+ autopilot (2010); new gas hob and oven (2012), much internal woodwork and refitting; Taylors heater (2013), Jabsco toilet (2017)... the list goes on, with tens of thousands spent.
This is a proper sailing boat. She has almost three tons of lead ballast encapsulated in the keel, is stiff and powerful and a joy to sail. She has a snug but safe and comfortable interior with full headroom. She has a full Admiralty size chart table. We have cruised her extensively all over the channel, every port and harbour from Brest to Cherbourg, all of it fabulous sailing. I only wish we had time for the sailing I had hoped for. She is fitted out with the best possible kit for long distance sailing. This one has clocked tens of thousands of miles, but others of her class have undertaken high-latitudes and numerous trans Atlantics. Where she goes is up to you - she has never given us a moment's worry in a vast range of conditions, including upwind in a full gale.
She attracts attention wherever she goes and is a real head turner.
