META Trilogy 50 – 2011 – Aluminium Expedition Trimaran
STELLA MARIS is a true exploration and bluewater cruising vessel, built to cross oceans. Designed by naval architect Jean-Pierre Brouns and built by the META yard in Strongall aluminium, she stands in the lineage of craft purpose-built for the open sea.
Her design is full of seamanlike common sense: engines housed separately in each outer hull, living space preserved in the central hull, careful insulation throughout (sprayed cork + closed-cell foam + acoustic panelling), a vast cockpit seating ten and a coachroof of nearly 40 m². CE Category A — every detail is conceived for the high seas and long passages.
Comprehensive documentation: architect's drawings, stability study, all invoices, service history, photos and videos.
2025–2026 REFIT

In August 2025 I acquired this trimaran with the plan to bring her back to La Rochelle, complete her fit-out, and set off cruising with the family in a few years' time. Our family circumstances have since changed, and I am sadly no longer able to carry the project through. Some equipment will need recommissioning — the generator and air conditioning, for example. Sea trials were carried out in February 2026 and went smoothly.
Numerous photos, videos and documents available on request.
Boat lying in Portimão (Portugal), secure private boatyard. Viewings possible by appointment, arranged through a professional present on site and subject to the seller's prior agreement.

STELLA MARIS sleeps seven across three separate sleeping areas, with mattresses throughout: 2× 90 × 190 cm, 2× 80 × 190 cm and 2× 70 × 190 cm. The central hull keeps the living space clear and protected, with a saloon seating five.
The galley is laid out and equipped but is offered as a project area: the plumbing requires renewal, and the diesel cooktop and oven (Wallas) need recommissioning. Refrigeration is by Webasto BD50F + Bosch fridge.
Galley & domestic inventory: Vetus freshwater tank; water-system pumps (Flojet, EMP 134, Quad II); Wallas diesel cooker/oven; Webasto BD50F refrigeration + Bosch fridge; Dessalator 60 L/h watermaker (never used); Porta Potti WC + 3× SaniMarin heads (installed, plumbing to be connected/renewed); Eberspächer Airtronic L heating and CLIMMA MK3 air conditioning.
This is an honest project interior for an experienced, hands-on owner: the structure, volumes and major systems are in place, with the joinery and plumbing left to finish to your own taste and program.
Designed by naval architect Jean-Pierre Brouns and custom-built by the renowned META yard (Tarare, France), STELLA MARIS is built in Strongall® aluminium — hull number 1823ME910.
Strongall is a patented hull-construction method developed by META in 1977; its name combines "strong" and "all" (for aluminium). The process consists of forming thick aluminium plate within its elastic limit and welding the panels together, producing a self-supporting deck-and-hull structure with no internal frames or floors. The plate used is two to three times thicker than that of conventional aluminium construction— here 12 mm — using marine-grade alloy. The result is a monolithic, exceptionally robust hull with no internal stiffening to corrode or fatigue, paired with META's anti-electrolysis treatment (blasting + inorganic silicate zinc coating) for outstanding longevity and very low maintenance.
It is the same construction philosophy and yard behind true ocean-going expedition craft such as Bernard Moitessier's Joshua and Philippe Poupon's Fleur Australe. Many Strongall boats remain in active service after several decades — a hull built to take impact and hard use, and to last a lifetime.
STELLA MARIS is set up for genuine offshore autonomy. Energy management is built around a Victron Quattro 24/5000 inverter-charger, backed by 450 W of solar panels with a Victron MPPT regulator, a Victron smart DC-DC converter and a galvanic isolator. The battery bank consists of five new batteries (2025), and the full 12 / 24 / 220 V electrical system was serviced during the 2025–2026 refit.
Onboard generation and water production are in place but require recommissioning before use:
A Mase IS 6.1 kW Kubota diesel generator provides mains-independent power. A Dessalator 60 L/h watermaker (never used) gives full freshwater autonomy at anchor or on passage.
Together with the solar array, generator and watermaker, the boat is equipped for extended, self-sufficient cruising far from facilities — a complete, expedition-grade energy and water platform.
STELLA MARIS carries a coherent, fully SIMRAD-based navigation suite, networked over NMEA and recommissioned during the 2025–2026 refit — proven in service over the February 2026 sea trials.
At the helm: two SIMRAD chartplotters (NSS evo2 12" and NSS 7"), a SIMRAD ForwardScan forward-looking sonar for shoal and uncharted-water navigation, and a SIMRAD AP70 autopilot (AP80 control). The boat is further equipped with AIS, radar (aboard), a Navicom RT-650 VHF with DSC/MOB function, a magnetic compass, and a Glomex Webboat 4G antenna / router for onboard connectivity at sea and in port.
Twin Nanni N4.115 marine diesels (Kubota base block), 115 hp / ≈ 84 kW each, installed independently — one in each outer hull, fully isolated from the central living hull. Approximately 290 engine hours. Serial numbers KTL09100191 and KTL09100192. Shaft-drive transmission with the propeller shaft line raised above the waterline.
Each engine pairs with a Nanni TM93 gearbox and ZF 9110 electronic controls. Fuel is drawn from 2× 1,500 L tanks (3,000 L total) through a new Racor 500FG filter with a fuel-polishing circuit. Typical consumption is 0.8 L/nm at an 8-knot cruise, 14 knots maximum.
Maintenance carried out (2025–2026): both engines fully serviced — oil and filter changes, heat exchangers, raw-water pump impellers and hoses renewed; both transmissions overhauled with new oil seals, O-rings and fresh oil; new Racor filtration fitted. The installation was proven over sea trials in February 2026 (110 nautical miles), with all mechanical systems running correctly.
STELLA MARIS is equipped for offshore safety and meets the demands of long ocean passages. The boat carries an EPIRB (valid to 2032) and a Survitec 8-person liferaft (serviced, valid to 2028).Fire protection comprises four automatic engine/compartment extinguishers plus two portable extinguishers. The crew is provided for with four new 165 N offshore lifejackets. For flooding and damage control, the boat has three bilge pumps plus a new Kärcher emergency dewatering pump.To this is added the inherent safety of the platform itself: a near-indestructible Strongall aluminium hull, and technical spaces housed in the two outer hulls, fully isolated from the central living hull — a genuinely seamanlike, fail-safe layout for the high seas.
