We are offering our much loved and much admired Fisher 46 for sale. Although
originally built in 1977, we are only the third owners. We purchased ‘Hawke’ in
2015 and carried out an extensive refit before sailing her down to the Algarve
in 2017. Since then we and our family and friends have enjoyed cruising the
lovely south coast of Iberia until the present. Unfortunately as we are heading
towards our late seventies, we think now is the time to pass ‘Hawke’ on. She is
an incredibly safe and seaworthy yacht, with massive internal volume offering 6
berths in 3 separate cabins, a large saloon and galley, 2 heads with showers,
large bright and spacious wheelhouse, loads of outside space and is well capable of
sailing anywhere from the tropics to the arctic. She would be well suited to an
extended family adventure, an expedition or as we have done – simply enjoying
boating in some comfort and safety!

"Hawke" was built with the 'standard' 6 berth layout, providing 2
x twin berth cabins forward, a large saloon and galley, heads with shower and
sink, passage to the master stateroom with island double berth, seating,
wardrobes, dressing table and en-suite toilet, shower and sink. In addition
there is a large wheelhouse with inside steering position and ample seating for
up to 6.
During the 2015/17 refit, we mostly retained the original layout but did
slightly changed the dining area, improved the double berth in the aft stateroom
and re designed the galley. This now incorporates a wider peninsular unit with twin s/s sinks,
mixer tap and stowage cupboards under and drawers in the end. A new gimbled
Force 10 4 burner cooker with oven is installed thwart ships with locker behind
and pan storage beneath. A s/s microwave cooker is built in to the end of the
run of worktops, underneath which is a 7kg domestic size Hoover washing machine
and a large s/s cabinet fridge (Frigoboat MS115 with keel cooling). Also during the
refit, all the headlinings were renewed.
Heavy GRP layup with large ribs and stringers glassed in (see photo). Iron ballast casting (approx 11 metric tons) encapsulated in the keel. Heavy bulkhead and supports under the deck mounted masts.
The main anchor is a genuine 40kg Lewmar Delta which sits securely in the heavy
bow roller system. The anchor is attached to 50m of 3/8" high tensile chain and the
anchor winch is an SL Francis 800 12volt electric horizontal axis winch with chain
gypsy on one side and a warping drum on the other. A 35lb CQR is provided as
a kedge, and this is stored in the large deck storage box mounted on the foredeck.
Each side of the vessel has 5 large mooring bollards. An outside steering position
is located in the cockpit directly aft of the wheelhouse and this also incorporates
outside seating.
A heavy stainless steel frame provides the support for the canvas cockpit bimini,
and also incorporates a crane for hoisting the outboard. Fender baskets are
mounted around the outside of the pushpit providing storage for 11 fenders.
There are 2 solar panels on the wheelhouse roof and these are connected via a
charge controller to both battery banks. In addition to the bimini, other canvas
work includes a full wrap around canvas cover to protect the teak gunwale
cappings and trims, a full set of covers for the wheelhouse windows, covers for
the 3 Vetus deck hatches and a cover for the large sliding wheelhouse hatch.
The previous owner had a Max-power HYD225 hydraulic bow thruster fitted -
the system is powered by a hydraulic pump driven by a clutched twin belt pulley
from the front of the engine, and the oil tank and valve gear are mounted on the aft
engineroom bulkhead.
The navigation equipment is clustered around the helm, and comprises a Richie flush
mount steering compass, Furuno 1621 LCD radar, Garmin GPSmap 750s chart-plotter/sounder
interfaced with the Autohelm ST6000 autopilot, Humminbird 150 fish-finder sounder,
Nasa AIS radar and Simrad RD68 DSC VHF. The outside steering position has a Nasa
wind speed and direction display, Navico log, Navico sounder and a Standard Horizon
CP 180i chart plotter.
"Hawke" as the original Ford Sabre 6 cyl naturally aspirated 120hp
diesel engine, indirect cooled with heat exchanger, coupled to a PRM 3:1
reduction gearbox. This drives a fixed 3 blade propeller via a 2.25" (57mm) dia
shaft - the shaft is fitted with a substantial rope cutter and is supported by a
cutlass bearing in the shaft log. The engine is a testament to the meticulous
maintenance that has been carried out through the life of the vessel as it
starts on the button, has excellent oil pressure and hasn't missed a beat during
our ownership. However, I have carried out some upgrades to the engine,
including fitting a spin on oil filter conversion, adding a Racor twin fuel
filter and fuel polishing system, replacing the engine mounts and flexi
coupling, replacing the gearbox oil cooler and replacing the propshaft.
"Hawke" is ketch rigged, with a Furlex 400S genoa furling system, a Selden
RB/RC in-mast furling system attached to the original main mast and a Selden RA
in- mast furling system attached to the mizzen. Shortly after purchasing "Hawke",
we had the masts unstepped, all the standing rigging removed and replaced, and all
the reefing gear stripped down and refurbished with new bearings etc. The
sail wardrobe comprises a heavy genoa, in-mast heavy main, in-mast heavy mizzen,
a hank-on heavy jib (around 100 sq ft) and a spinnaker. All the sails are in
useable condition (we had the UV strip replaced on the genoa in 2016). Two
Lewmar 56 self tailing winches are mounted in the cockpit for the Genoa, a
Lewmar 40 self tailing winch is mounted on the coachroof together with a bank of
5 Spinlock rope clutches to control the main sail reefing system, an Enkes 20
and a Lewmar 25 (both 2 speed) are mounted on the main mast, together with
Spinlock clutches for the main and genoa halyards and a Lewmar 8 and Lewmar 10
winches are mounted on the mizzen. Both the main and mizzen have a twin sheeting
arrangements to control the booms when motor sailing. A substantial (100mm dia x
3.6m) spinnaker pole is included and this doubles as a derrick for swinging
dinghies on board.
"Hawke" comes with an Avon 6 man Ocean liferaft (next service
due 04/25), a GME AccuSat EPIRB (next service 01/28), 4 x 2kg Dry Powder fire
extinguishers and a 2.5kg automatic engine room extinguisher (next service date
04/25), galley fire blanket, 2 x horseshoe lifebuoys (one with danbuoy, light
and drogue), OSCAR man overboard rescue system, strong boarding ladder,
scrambling net and flares (2 x parachute, 3 x red hand, 1 x orange smoke
canister all exp 04/26)
